...Tequilatequilaof Mexico’s rich heritage and vibrant culture, it is one of the world’s most iconic and beloved spirits. Born from the blue agave plant, this spirit carries the essence of volcanic soil and centuries-old traditions, resulting in a versatile flavor profile – from earthy and herbal to sweet and fiery.
The agave plant used for tequila takes years to mature before it can be harvested. The heart of the plant, known as the piña is roasted, crushed, and then fermented to produce a liquid called tequila, which is distilled. The distillation process can vary, resulting in different types of tequila: Blanco / Silver / Plata – unaged tequila, known for its pure agave flavor and crisp character; Reposado (rested) – gently and balanced tequila aged in oak barrels for a few months up to a year, with notes of vanilla and spice; Añejo (aged) – tequila aged 1–3 years, featuring rich flavors of caramel, oak, and dried fruits; Extra Añejo (extra aged) – tequila aged over three years, offering extraordinary depth and refinement.
Tequila is often consumed neat, while outside of Mexico it has become customary to lick salt before drinking and bite into lime or lemon afterward to soften the spirit’s heat. Tequila is also a key ingredient in many popular cocktails, such as the Margarita and Tequila Sunrise.
