The journey of Armagnac begins in the picturesque vineyards of the Armagnac region in Southwestern France. The unique combination of clay-limestone soil, maritime climate, and abundant sunshine gives the grapes their distinctive qualities. Armagnac is mainly produced from four grape varieties: Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, Colombard, and Baco Blanc. The grapes are pressed, fermented, and then distilled. Aging takes place in oak barrels, and depending on the maturation period, the quality designation of Armagnac is determined: VS (Very Special) – 2.5–7 years; VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale) – 4.5–12 years; XO (Extra Old) – 9–40 years.
Armagnac is usually enjoyed neat in a tulip-shaped glass, which allows the aromas to concentrate. Its flavor profile varies widely, ranging from fruity and floral notes in younger bottles to rich and complex nuances in older vintages.
Araxes liquor store offers a representative selection of Armagnacs from prestigious producers such as Baron Gaston Legrand and Janneau. Explore and enjoy!
